Prof. Rico Maggi
Director of the Institute for Economic Research

Prof. Rico Maggi (1951) is full professor at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) and has been Dean of the Faculty of Economics from 2009 until 2013. He is also honorary professor at University of Zürich. He teaches Microeconomics and Economics of Tourism at the Università della Svizzera italiana. Prof. Rico Maggi is Director of the Istituto di Ricerche Economiche (IRE) where his research interests focus on transport, tourism, urban and regional development. He is president of the Swiss Association for Transport Research and was member of the board of the Swiss National Science Foundation and of the Marcel Benoist’s Foundation. Prof. Rico Maggi is author of many articles published in international academic journals. He serves regularly as referee for international academic journals. His last book “Verkehrt – Plädoyer für eine nachhaltige Verkehrspolitik“ (2010) has been issued by Avenir Suisse.

Moreno Baruffini, PhD in Economics

Dipl. Ing. Moreno Baruffini is PhD in Economics at the Institute for Economic Research - IRE. Since 2007 he has been working as a research assistant and scientific researcher at Università della Svizzera italiana. He currently works as Project Manager for the economic policy and competitiveness area of the Observatory for Economic Dynamics (O-De). His current academic work concerns the analysis of European cross-border labour markets and border-regional economics, specifically focusing on trans-border mobility and “flexicurity”.

Davide Arioldi, PhD in Economics

Davide Arioldi is PhD in Economics at the Institute of Economic Research (IRE), Università della Svizzera italiana. He's the project manager at PanelCODE. He worked as a quantitative analyst in an asset management company developing model for asset allocation and as an analyst in a chartered accounting firms dealing with company assessments for M&A and extraordinary finance, real estate assessments, brand and other intangible assessments. He is interested in evaluating the role of the financial sector in regional growth and regional inflation.

Luzius Stricker, PhD in Economics

Luzius Stricker is a PhD in Economics. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in economics at the USI and since 2014 is a collaborator at the Labour Market Observatory (O-Lav) (now O-De). His research focuses on wage policies.

Paolo Malfitano, PhD in Economics

Paolo Malfitano is PhD in Economics at the Institute for Economic Research (IRE), starting from Junuary 2014. He holds a bachelor degree in statistics and computer science and a master’s degree in statistics and economics. He currently works for Observatory of Economic Dynamics (O-De) (ex-O-POL). He provides constant monitoring of the current economic conditions and a scientific evaluation of the Canton of Ticino economic competitiveness.
